Nearly every drywall wall in the valley is textured, so a repair here means fixing the damage and then matching the orange peel or knockdown around it. Long heating seasons dry out framing and reopen seams, so we tape cracks instead of just filling them.
Most homes in the valley built after about 1950 have drywall, and nearly all of it is textured. Orange peel and knockdown are the common finishes on walls, and many ceilings from the 1960s through the 1980s have popcorn texture. A good repair here is two jobs: fixing the hole or crack, and then matching the texture around it so the patch does not show. We look at the wall in person before we price, because texture changes the time needed.
We repair nail pops, dents, door knob holes, cracks at corners, loose tape and water damaged sections. Small holes are filled. Larger ones get a new piece of drywall, tape and joint compound in several thin coats, each sanded. The furnace runs for months in a Salt Lake winter and the air gets very dry, so wood framing shrinks and cracks often return at the same seams. Those are taped, not just filled.
Every patch is primed before paint. Bare compound soaks up paint and shows as a dull spot if it is skipped. After a roof or plumbing leak, the source has to be fixed and the board must be dry before repair. Stains are sealed with a stain-blocking primer. Older homes with plaster need a different approach, and we repair plaster cracks as well. Tell us at the estimate which walls are plaster, if you know.

Drywall repair in Salt Lake City: common questions
Can you match my wall texture?
Usually, yes. Orange peel and knockdown patches are sprayed or troweled to blend with the wall. Very heavy or hand-made textures are harder to copy, and we tell you if the whole wall should be redone.
Why do cracks keep coming back above my doors?
The house moves a little as the seasons change. Winter heating dries the framing and it shrinks. A crack that is only filled will open again. Taping the joint and using flexible products holds much longer.
Do you repair drywall without painting the whole room?
Yes. But touch-up paint rarely matches an older wall exactly. Painting the whole wall from corner to corner gives a clean result.
