What we paint

Painting services

One room or the whole house? We look at the surfaces, talk colors and sheen, and give you a written quote.

The Salt Lake City Painters paint homes and businesses in Salt Lake City and the towns around it, from Bountiful in the north to Draper in the south. The work covers house interiors and exteriors, kitchen cabinets, decks, fences, offices, shops and rental units. We are licensed and insured. Homeowners, landlords, property managers and business owners all call us, and every job starts the same way: a visit, a look at the surfaces and a written quote.

Salt Lake housing is mixed, and each type asks for different paint work. The Avenues and Capitol Hill have old wood siding, detailed trim and plaster walls. Sugar House and Yalecrest are mostly brick, so the painting there is windows, eaves and porches. Newer homes are stucco and fiber cement. The sun at about 4,300 feet fades south and west walls first, and winter freeze and thaw opens joints. Careful prep and the right season decide how long the paint holds.

A job runs in plain steps. You call, text or send the form, and we come to see the house or building. The written quote lists the rooms or walls, the repairs, the number of coats and the paint grade. On the agreed day we cover floors, furniture and plants, do the repairs and primer, then paint. At the end we clean up and walk the work with you, and anything you point out is put right before we leave.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to paint a house in Salt Lake City?

By national figures published by HomeGuide for 2026, a whole interior costs $3,500 to $10,000 on average and an exterior $1.50 to $5.00 per square foot. Those are not our quotes. Size, height, wall type and prep set your price, and we give it in writing after a free estimate.

When is the best time to paint a house exterior in Salt Lake City?

From about May into early October. Spring is the wettest season and nights turn cold fast in fall. In July and August we start early and follow the shade, because paint fails on a hot wall in direct sun.

Does a painter need a license in Utah?

Yes, for all but small jobs. Utah licenses painters through the Division of Professional Licensing under classification S270, Drywall, Paint and Plastering. The Salt Lake City Painters is licensed and insured.

My house was built before 1978. Does lead paint matter?

Yes. Old coats may contain lead, and paid work that disturbs them must be done by a certified lead-safe firm. Utah's Division of Air Quality runs the state program. Ask any painter for the firm certificate.

Do I need a permit or approval to paint my house?

Salt Lake City does not require a building permit for painting, and paint color is not reviewed in its local historic districts. Unpainted historic brick should stay unpainted. Many HOAs must approve exterior colors first.

Should I paint my brick?

Usually not if it has never been painted. Paint can trap moisture in brick, and freeze and thaw then damages the face. On a brick house we paint the wood trim, eaves and doors. Already painted brick can be repainted.
