Millcreek became a city at the end of 2016, but its neighborhoods are much older. East Mill Creek and Canyon Rim are streets of mid-century brick homes with wide eaves, wood soffits and carports. Many still have original wood windows and trim that need careful scraping and priming, and a house of that age may have lead in the old coats. Higher up, Olympus Cove sits on the lower slope of Mount Olympus. Homes there are larger, with a lot of wood siding, cedar trim, decks and tall window walls that face the afternoon sun. Snow stays longer on that slope than on the valley floor, and decks and railings take a beating. West of the freeway the homes are smaller, with more siding and less brick. Inside, we see plaster in the older houses and textured drywall in the newer ones.
