Salt Lake homes have two kinds of wall: old plaster in the Avenues and Sugar House, and textured drywall almost everywhere else. Both need repair and primer before color. Dry air makes paint set fast here, so we work a full wall at a time and apply two coats.
Interior painting in Salt Lake City covers two very different kinds of wall. Older homes in the Avenues, Sugar House and Liberty Wells have plaster, which cracks at corners and around doors and has often been patched many times. Newer homes across the valley have drywall with a sprayed texture, usually orange peel or knockdown. Each needs its own prep. We fill and sand, match the texture on patches, and prime repairs so they do not show through the finish coats.
The dry air here helps and hurts. Paint dries quickly, so rooms can be used again sooner than in a humid place. But fast drying also means lap marks if a wall is not kept wet edge to edge, and caulk at trim joints shrinks and opens as the seasons change. We work one full wall at a time, use quality caulk at baseboards and casings, and apply two coats so the color is even.
Before work starts we move and cover furniture, protect floors and take off switch plates. Many Salt Lake homes were built before 1978, and old trim, windows and doors can have lead in the lower coats. On those homes sanding and scraping have to follow lead-safe methods. At the end we put the room back, clean up and walk it with you in good light. Expect a room to be out of use for a day or two while the coats dry.

Interior painting in Salt Lake City: common questions
Can you paint inside during a Salt Lake winter?

Yes. Interior painting goes on all year here. The furnace keeps the house warm and the winter air is dry, so paint dries well. We air the rooms for short spells and use low-odor paint when windows have to stay shut.
Can you match the texture on my walls after a repair?
In most cases, yes. Orange peel and knockdown are the common textures in the valley, and a patch is textured and primed before paint. On a very large or old texture, a full skim or re-texture of the wall can blend better. We tell you which one we expect.
Do you paint ceilings and trim too?
Yes. Walls, ceilings, baseboards, doors, casings and closets can all be part of the job. The written quote lists each one so you can see what is in the price and add or remove items.
